Do you own an electric Hyundai forklift and want to learn more about our batteries? In our previous blog, we spoke about lithium-ion batteries and their benefits and also why we choose them over lead acid batteries. There is no doubt that you may be curious about our battery and the battery charger.
We invited William Lin, Business Development Manager at RowPow (Read our article about Li-ion batteries), to share some of the key features of the battery:
The whole case is made up of steel and has an IP65 rating. This means that it is protected from low pressure water jets from any direction and it is suitable for most outdoor usage that will not encounter extreme weather such as flooding.
There are two plugs connected to the battery. The first plug is called the discharge plug. The discharge plug is what you use to plug into the forklift to draw the battery voltage/current for truck operation. The next plug is the charging plug which is what you connect to the smart charger to charge your battery.
The service box has the most important unit of the battery: BMS module (Battery Management System). It is similar to having a CPU in your computer that regulates all the currents coming in and out of the cell.
RoyPow has its own engineering team that designs and makes the BMS modules in the factory. Moreover, if you run into issues with the service box, contact Hyundai Forklifts, and a replacement part will be sent to you.
The communication cable plays a very crucial role as the bridge between the battery and the smart charger. The communication cable is directly connected to the charging cable so that the smart charger will be able to communicate with the BMS module’s house inner service box while you are charging your battery. By doing that, you will prevent the battery from overheating and from being overcharged.
The CAN Wire is used when a battery gets broken or when the BMS module needs a program update. The cable is used to connect to your laptop in order to diagnose the status of the battery and upgrade a BMS function.
The Battery Discharge Indicator (BDI Gauge) shows the state of charge of the battery. Next to the monitor screen, there is a power button that is circled by a LED light source to indicate the status of the battery.
The monitor screen of the BDI Gauge is a touchscreen display that has several different pages that will give the information of the battery:
RoyPow’s Lithium Intelligent Charger forms another important part of the Lithium-ion battery system. Here are some things you should know about the smart charger:
The charging portal is used to connect to the battery for charging.
The circuit breaker is built into the smart charger to add in another layer of safety. It is used to protect an electrical circuit from damage from overcharge by interrupting the current flow once a fault is detected. You can switch the circuit breaker on or off depending on the status of the battery level.
The touch monitor screen on the smart charger is useful when it comes to customising or monitoring your charging processes. The screen is located next to the “Start” and “Pause” buttons where you can monitor and create presets for the charging of the battery. For example, if you have got a 20 amp set up in your warehouse but you are trying to use a high voltage battery system, you can preset charging currents in the touch screen.
Hyundai forklifts’ batteries are packed with features that aim to simplify maintenance and troubleshooting processes while delivering advantages including quick charging, longer life cycles, cost savings and suitability for the Australian climate.
