In today's fast-paced and highly competitive business environment, it's crucial to have efficient and reliable equipment that can help you achieve your goals. One such equipment that plays a critical role in many industries is the high reach forklift (or reach truck). In this blog post, we'll explain what it is, its benefits, where it's used, and what reach trucks we have at Hyundai.
What is a High Reach Forklift?
A high reach forklift is a narrow aisle type of forklift that is designed to lift and move loads to higher elevations in narrow aisles, typically in warehouse settings. Unlike traditional forklifts, high reach forklifts work in narrower aisles ranging from 2800mm to 3400mm wide and are equipped with a mast that reaches out, with lift heights of up to 13 metres.
They come in two configurations, sit-on moving mast reach trucks and stand-up pantograph reach trucks.
Where are they used?
Reach forklifts are commonly used in many industries, including warehousing, logistics, cold storage, and manufacturing. They are particularly useful in settings where there is a need to maximise storage capacity by reducing aisle width between racking to store and retrieve goods from high elevations up to 13 metres high.
Sit on reach trucks vs stand up reach trucks?
Sit-down reach trucks are operated while the operator sits on a seat and controls the truck with a steering wheel, pedals, and levers. They are ideal for longer operations where the driver isn’t leaving the truck for an extended period of time.
Stand-up reach trucks are operated while the operator stands on a platform and controls the truck using a set of hand controls. They are better suited for when the operator needs to get on/off the forklift to check stock or to complete paperwork. However, they are typically not as comfortable for extended use as sit-down reach trucks.
Benefits of High Reach Forklifts:
- Improved productivity - Lift and move loads to high elevations quickly, allows workers to move more loads in less time.
- Increased storage capacity - They enable workers to access higher storage areas, maximising the use of vertical space and increasing storage capacity.
- Enhanced safety - Designed to handle heavy and bulky loads safely and efficiently, reducing the risk of injury and damage to goods.
- Versatility - High reach forklifts can be equipped with specialised attachments such as side-shifters, making them versatile and able to handle different types of loads
- Operate in narrow aisles - They can work in narrower aisles when compared to regular counterbalance forklifts.
