Hyundai Forklifts Australia has delivered high-voltage lithium forklift training to Hyundai Material Handling WA, the first high-voltage training run in Western Australia. The session covered the Hyundai 55B-X, a 5.5 tonne model, and the 25B-X at 2.5 tonne. Senior and master technicians in WA can now service both models locally.
Michael Goddard, General Manager at Hyundai Material Handling WA, posted on LinkedIn that it was good to have our Service and Training Manager fly over to work directly with two of their senior and master technicians. As the Hyundai Forklifts lithium range expands into larger capacity equipment, the team noted, the technical capability and support needs to already be in Western Australia.
The training was run by Myoungkyou Ha, our Product, Service and Parts Manager.
Sydney to Perth is a five hour flight. If the training could have been done on a screen, nobody would have made the trip.
High-voltage systems need hands on the actual forklift, where the cabling runs, what order the isolation steps go in, what the machine looks like with the covers off. Reading about it and doing it are not the same thing. For technicians who have spent years on engine forklifts or lead acid electrics, the differences need to be worked through in person.
That is also why the training went to senior and master level technicians.
The 55B-X and 25B-X are both B-X series, so the controls, display layout and safety features carry across.
The batteries do not. The 2.5 tonne runs at 48V and the 5.5 tonne is high-voltage, which means different service procedures. Covering both in one session puts the split in front of the technicians while the rest of the machine is familiar.
The trip was not only classroom work. The 55B-X charger setup was adjusted on site as well.
Charger output was matched to the power supply already at the site, and charging was run and confirmed working before the team left. Power conditions vary from site to site, so this step is part of every installation. Charge times shift depending on how the charger is configured, which is why we look at how a site runs before specifying it.
New technology needs technicians who can work on it before the machines go out. The other way around leaves customers with equipment nobody can fix.
So training goes into a region before the larger lithium forklifts do. That is what this WA session was, and the same work is happening in other regions as they ask for it.
It is not a one off either. The Hyundai Forklifts lithium range keeps growing, so each new model brings the training round again.
